1957 Plymouth Belvedere
“3 Full Years Ahead…Suddenly, Its 1960!”
Up for your consideration is this gorgeous ’57 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe. The late, great Virginal Exner
broke the mold when he created the 1957 Plymouth. This lower, sleeker, tail-finned beauty is truly the “star of
the forward look!”
This one was originally black with a black interior, built at the Los Angeles Plymouth plant. The car spent the
majority of its life out on the west coast before being shipped to Michigan in 2002. The odometer currently reads
21, 774 but I cannot verify the mileage as accurate. The car underwent a frame-on restoration in the 90’s and it
has held up very well. Some of the mild custom changes made to the car include; chroming the grille and “blacking
out” the vertical portions, installing a ‘58 Plymouth lower grille, ’58 grille V emblem and adding
aftermarket dual rear antennas. These mods were done very tastefully and makes this Ms. Belvedere one classy lady!
This Plymouth was originally equipped with a poly “A block” V8 engine and 3 speed push-button transmission. She
is now powered by a 1969 383 big block V8 coupled with a 1962 torqueflite 727 “B” 3 speed transmission. The
earlier transmission retains full use of the original push-button shifter and factory parking brake. The car is in
great mechanical condition. The motor runs strong and it sounds great with no smoke. The transmission shifts as it
should. Engine compartment mods include; Mallory electronic ignition, aluminum intake manifold, Edelbrock 4 bbl
carburetor, power brake booster, alternator, and chrome valve covers / air cleaner. The “total contact” brakes
were recently replaced all the way around including all new wheel cylinders, soft lines and a portion of hard line.
The parking brake components were also replaced and it works great. The fuel pump, power steering lines and battery
were all replaced within the last few years. All of the fluids and filters were recently changed.
The exterior of the Plymouth is in excellent overall condition. The base coat / clear coat dark red metallic paint
is very glossy and it looks great. There are some touched up paint chips in various places on the car and some
bubbles on the corners of the trunk lid and doors. There is no evidence of any major rust repair to the body. The
fenders, rockers, and quarter panels are all very straight and look great. The majority of the exterior chrome has
been replaced or re-chromed and it shines like new. The grille, headlight trim, “eye brows, ” and fender V’s
are all very straight and have been chromed. All of the stainless including the door handles have been polished to
a mirror-like finish. The bumpers have been replaced, however there is a slight bend in the rear bumper due to the
previous owner backing into something. The driver’s side fender trim is also slightly bent near the door opening.
All of the glass is in great condition and the windshield was replaced at some point. She is still equipped with
14” steel wheels, original hubcaps and radial tires.
The interior has been completely redone from top to bottom. The headliner, seat covers and carpeting were replaced.
The seats feature a red velour insert that compliments the black interior very well. The steering wheel and
optional padded dash are in great shape. All of the interior trim including the window surrounds, knobs, radio,
door latches, trunk latch and glove box door were chromed. The radio and clock both work, however the radio is not
connected to any speakers. The factory instrument cluster and gauges work and aftermarket tach / 3 gauge set added.
There is a small hole in the passenger side toe board due a leak from a previously installed aftermarket air
conditioning unit. There is also another area that was repaired with metal on the passenger side floor. The rest of
the floors / frame are solid. The trunk floor is very solid and the interior of the trunk was recently painted.
As much as I’d hate to see her go, Christine’s older sister is ready for a new home. She’s a guaranteed hit
at the local car shows and cruise-ins because you just don’t see many 57-59 Mopars around. The big block 383
powers this big finned beauty down the road with authority and she rides lik
